One of the finishing touches I’d love to add to my library / guest room / home office are two bookend style library lights. The Ballard lights (#1 below) are the first product of this kind that I’d seen and are still my favorite of the bunch because of the patterned shade and the corded style (I have an outlet behind the bookcase and I don’t need another thing to charge). But in the past year or so a number of other options have appeared on the market — some quite affordable.

- Ballard Designs Ivy Bookshelf Light with Shade in Marble/Brass with Isla Pleated Shade ($276, currently marked down to $220.80) // I am considering this as my Black Friday purchase this year. Plug-in.
- Target Wood Mid Tone Bookshelf Lamp – Hearth & Hand™ with Magnolia ($49.99) // So affordable! At this price, I could buy a custom shade from Pooky (above) or Etsy to make it feel a little more special. In fact, I just might price that out. Plug-in.
- Pooky bronte cordless bookshelf light in brass with 6 inch empire shade for cordless lamps in denim Tuffley gathered cotton by GP & J Baker ($240) // There are over 300 shades to choose from. The style is a little different (it clamps on rather than acts as a bookend). Cordless.
- Pottery Barn x Chris Loves Julia Bookshelf Light in White Marble ($249) // Also comes in a version with a green base and blue and white striped shade. Plug-in.
- T.J. Maxx Laura Ashley 13×6.5×11.5 Solid Marble Bookend Lamp ($59.99) // Another super affordable option. Marshalls has an almost identical listing as well. Cordless.
Completely unnecessary yet completely charming!
